Can you play Fortnite on Xbox 360 or PS3?

Fortnite has continued to grow in popularity, becoming one of the most played games of the year so far. Last month it had over 3 million concurrent players and the regular updates and new season 3 Battle Pass have been popular with fans of the game.

The most recent update saw the addition of another new weapon as well as a new location for players to explore on the map. However, some players have been wondering whether the game is available on older consoles such as the Xbox 360 or PS3.

WHAT FORTNITE WOULD LOOK LIKE IF IT WAS ON THE PLAYSTATION 3 ...

Unfortunately, Fortnite Battle Royale is not currently available on Xbox 360 or PS3 and this is unlikely to change, mostly because the consoles don’t support Unreal Engine 4 which runs the game.

The game is currently playable on PC, Mac, Xbox One and PS4 and has been no announcements of plans for it to release on other devices.

Is Fortnite available as cross-platform?

Cross-platform gameplay is currently not available, meaning PS4 players can’t interact with Xbox players in the game. However, Epic Games has confirmed that there is cross-progression available for PS4 and PC, which means that players can carry the same progress on both platforms and have access to their unlockable items.

To use the cross-progression feature you will need to link your Epic Games account to your PlayStation, however once you do this it will reset your PS4 progress.

WHY DOES IT NOT HAVE FORTNITE ON THE PS3? IT HAS TOO FOR ANDROID !!

In my opinion it can still be availed because it has a processing until good and fully usable (BEYOND THIS NOT EVERYBODY CAN BUY A GOOD PC OR A PS4)

When the Party Royale mode for Fortnite was first announced it was assumed that it would be used primarily for socialising and putting on music concerts, like the recent one by Travis Scott which was watched by over 12 million people.

But with everyone on lockdown all public meetings are currently impossible, not just concerts, and since it’s election time in November, Americans have got the idea that maybe they could use Fortnite to hold rallies.

‘I think the way we traditionally campaign is really out of date, really inefficient, really expensive, and really exhausting’, said former campaign aid Lis Smith in a recent piece for The New York Times.

It should be noted, of course, that New Horizons is a Switch exclusive and is being sold at £49.99 on the Nintendo Store, whereas Fortnite, in comparison, has the advantage of being free-to-play and available on multiple platforms as opposed to just one.

What has no doubt helped is Epic’s regular updates to the game, with the latest being the Party Royale island that is dedicated to mini-games and has no combat at all.

Fortnite is not compatible with the PS3 because

  1. The PS3 is much less powerful than the minimum specs to play Fortnite MOBILE
  2. The PS3 isn’t compatible with the newer versions of Unreal Engine 4
  3. The PS3 isn’t powerful enough to run Fortnite even with sub phone graphics
  4. It would get 15 FPS at best
  5. Since it’s not compatible with modern versions of UE4 it would only be able to match players with other PS3 players

There is no way to get Fortnite on a PS3. Fortnite was only released for PC, Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, iPhone, and a small amount of Android phones. The PS3 is 10 years old at this point, and they will most likely stop online multiplayer support for the console in the near future. Porting Fortnite over to the PS3 would be a waste of time and resources for Epic, considering the fact that

A. The console is old and most people play on a PS4 over the PS3

B. The console likely would not even be able to handle the game
